17th Senior Ladies Day

Woman Care Trust successfully celebrated their 17th Senior Ladies Day on 26th September 2016 at Community Centre. About 65-70 ladies attended the event. We started our function with reciting holy prayer “Chaupai Sahib Path” After prayer all the ladies recited “Shabad” and whole atmosphere was filled with religious & spiritual feeling.  We all get an opportunity to worship god and get peace of mind with the prayers. After the prayers WCT had arranged for Tea and biscuits for the refreshment of the ladies. Then ladies played some traditional games. The idea behind these games are to engage them in some physical activity over a consistent period which can help in improving overall quality of life and assist in longevity. Seniors require mental stimulation and games that improve the brain and memory skills are beneficial.  These games are not only helpful in bringing positive changes in mind and body but also is very helpful in reducing stress. Paramjit Kaur then distributed prizes to the game winners to keep them motivated. The ladies forget their loneliness and boredom when they attend this function as they change to interact with new people and extend their social network. These games involving other people creates social opportunities and improve self-esteem. Baljit Kaur contestant of Howick Local Board – Botany introduced herself to the ladies and requested them for voting. After that Dr Kamal shared information on skin problems. Also she advised remedies for skin itching and gave some more good information on health and balanced diet. The ladies also cleared their doubts and questions from Dr Kamal on health and eating habits. After this there was another session by Yoga instructor Paramjit Kaur, where ladies learnt some yoga postures and exercises. In the afternoon, WCT had arranged for lunch for the ladies, Indian chick peas curry and rice. Being more active during the day and involved in lot of activities during the Senior Ladies Day helps the ladies to create a more restful night’s sleep and peace of mind.  It is a proven fact that spending time together doing the things that we enjoy can help delay signs of aging and the pleasure in participating can lead to positive feelings that can help fight against some illnesses. The function was another successful moment for Woman Care Trust which will help us in achieving its goal of Woman’s Wellbeing and Community Development.
