Lohri Celebration

10.30 am to 2.30 pm, Community Centre,  Papatoetoe

Woman Care Trust organized Punjabi festival “Lohri” at Community Centre Papatoetoe on 11th January 2016. There were around 100 people who attended this event. The function started with serving snacks and drinks. There was a solo performance on punjabi folk song by a young punjabi girl. Then there was a presentation given by Baljit Dheil on the activities performed at Woman Care Trust in 2014-15. After that certificates were given to the members by Baljit Dheil for attending English and Computer classes. There was “Matka Game” & “Pick & Perform” to entertain all. The winners got prizes from Baljit Dheil. There were few other performances by the audience and sang lot of Lohri songs. All performances were given prizes by Baljit Dheil. Last performance was the most awaited punjabi folk dance “Gidha”. Everyone enjoyed all the performances a lot. After eating lunch everyone was on the dance floor celebrating Lohri. This function helped our punjabi community to celebrate their festival in New Zealand and also their children get attached to their roots.
